Trevor Bayliss takes over as new Sri Lanka coach

An Australian succeeded an Australian as Trevor Bayliss is appointed coach of the Sri Lankan cricket team following Tom Moody’s exit.

Bayliss, the 44-year-old coach has quit his job with New South Wales to join the Sri Lankan team on a two-year contract.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President Jayantha Dharmadasa said Bayliss was very much impressive during his recent interview in Colombo and the selection panel had no hesitation in awarding him the job.

Bayliss, however, faces a tough challenge as he takes over the Sri Lankan team. His predecessor and fellow Australian Moody guided the team to the World Cup final and Bayliss would have to better the record if he has to live upto the expectations. Incidentally, Moody had suggested Bayliss’ name to the SLC authorities.

Bayliss’ advantage is that he understands all aspects of the game and has already made a name for himself as a quality coach. He took over from Steve Rixon at New South Wales some three years ago and also functioned as a Development Officer for NSW.
