Trott Claims Vaughan's Words Have No Merit, Gets Smith And Strauss' Backing

Jonathan Trott was expecting criticism to fly when England landed in South Africa. But he was given a taste of it at home, his adopted home.
England’s tour to South Africa is expected to put the spotlight on Trott, who moved to England in 2002, and thereby, shifted allegiance to the Three Lions, in his own words.
However, former England captain, Michael Vaughan, has thrown Trott’s allegiance in doubt by claiming scandalously that Trott was partying around with the South Africans after the match at Edgbaston in 2008.
Vaughan made the malicious claim in his book, Time to Declare, “It was a sad day for English cricket that on my last day against South Africa I saw Jonathan Trott celebrating with South Africa, when the week before he had been our twelfth man at Headingley. I was going into the press conference and I saw him patting them on the back. It hit home what English cricket has become like.”
But whether Vaughan was simply burning inside from the loss or from having to give up his captaincy in the course of that series is a possibility in his reaction to Trott which is no doubt over the top.
While Trott has refuted those claims stating that he was simply present at the time the teams trooped into the dressing room and he happened to meet his childhood cricket mate, Paul Harris, whom he wished luck, the England coach, Andy Flower, the England captain, Andrew Strauss, and even South African captain, Graeme Smith, have come out in support of Trott.
While Strauss believes that Trott was “simply at the wrong place at the wrong time”, Flower believes Trott is “100 per cent committed to England”, Smith has questioned what was wrong if he chose to have lunch with Trott since they did play cricket in the early formative years and were happy to share in each other’s successes.
Trott has made a name for himself by scoring a match winning century on debut at the Oval in the crucial Ashes decider to seal Australia’s fate and thereby, vindicate his selection after seven years of trying to establish himself in England county cricket.
