Twenty20 Cricket only a source entertainment: Lara
Bhagaban Sahu | Jul 22 2006

The Twenty20 cricket is only a source of entertainment for the spectators. It has nothing to do player’s performance. It does not test the potentialities of cricketers. The new version of the game has not fascinated the West Indies skipper Brain Lara.

Lara says,

I don’t think it (Twenty20) tests the ability of players like Tests do. But it is good for the crowd. You are playing a sport, and sport is all about spectators.

He further comments,
Test cricket is my game. It is a game I really love to play. Before being asked to captain the team for the third time, I tried to guide my career in the direction of playing more Test cricket and less one-day games.

Laura please... cricket 20/20 have surved the WI well and i am glad that someone sees the need for such an investment in the Cricket industry here in the WI

Dear Arleen C, To some extent, I agree with your view on Twenty20 cricket.
Despite Lara’s strong comment on Twenty20 version of cricket, the new version assumes greater importance in wake of new ICC rules (power play rules). Gone are the days when players used to stand for a long with slow batting. Modern cricket demands aggressive batting approach. In the wake of this, the Twenty20 tournaments are highly necessary.
