Warne: Tricks As Always Up his Sleeve
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Apr 13 2009

When not playing poker with Formula One drivers or teaching them how to bat, Shane Warne is plotting the Rajasthan Royals’ next success graph.

Shane Warne, captain cum coach of the Rajasthan Royals, was disheartened by the fact that his team lost but even in defeat, Shane Warne had tricks up his sleeve that is not only typical of the leg spinner but also, highlights exactly why the Rajasthan Royals made the revelation from no hopers to the winners of the IPL 2008.
Warne changed tactics once the Cape Cobras, champions of the South Africa Twenty20 championships, lost five wickets with hardly any runs on board. He deliberately held back his more experienced bowlers in favour of the novice bowlers. The card was two fold. It would not only test the bowlers but also, ensure that the opposition got a few more runs to pose a challenging total to test the Rajasthan Royals batsmen.
While the going became tough once Rajasthan lost too many wickets, at least it gave the skipper the opportunity to show how the team could plot and plan its own rise or fall by testing itself in real time match situations. Exercise well used, we’d say!
