Shane Warne wants to see more of the aggression that Australians are normally associated with, even if it means getting in trouble with the law, the law of the game that is.
Warne has spoken out against Cricket Australia’s policy of not allowing players to indulge in sledging. Warne feels that the policy aimed to maintain a cleaner, more austere image for a team known for its otherwise bullying behaviour on the field, has perhaps prevented the Australian cricketers from unleashing the aggression on the field.
Warne stated he missed the glares, the snarls, the snorters, and the aggressive body language that constitutes an Australian team. He was particularly disappointed that the Australian bowlers have not shown the aggressive intent and ran into the England batsmen to put more pressure on them.
Warne was touching upon essentially the points raised by Russell Crowe, the Hollywood actor, who wondered on air at Lord’s about what had happened to the boisterous body language normally associated with the Australians.
As if on cue, Mitchell Johnson is now talking about rediscovering his confidence by getting body language behind his action and adding aggression again to his bowling style.
