India seems to have become a hub for match-fixing scandals; it hasn’t been long when South African Herschel Gibbs was under scrutiny of the Delhi police concerning his involvement in the match-fixing scandal and here again Nagpur police has broken into another similar issue.
This time the claws grip a West Indian’s neck - all-rounder Marlon Samuels is alleged by the Nagpur police of passing vital match information to bookie Mukesh Kochchar, the outbreak is backed with taped phone conversations. The Anti-corruption and Security unit of the International Cricket Council has asked for investigations into the West Indians conduct on the team’s tour to India.
According to the police in the telephonic conversation with Mukesh Kochchar who is reported to be linked with the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, Samuels talks of the pitch condition and his teams batting and bowling order.
If Samuels’ proven guilty the issue could be decisive for the West Indies Cricket with the World Cup around the corner. However, I believe the evidence isn’t enough to conclude that the matter is of a match fixing.
The investigations should be through and the roots of the bookies should be wiped out or many more cricketers will be lured into gambling.
