White Lightning Against Australia…Again?
Sreelata Yellamrazu | Dec 16 2008

No, South Africa are not recalling Allan Donald for the WACA, Perth Test (though they wish they could). But they believe, they have a reincarnated image of Donald that they hope will strike Australia deep.
South Africa have landed in Australia boasting of a bowling attack they hope will lead them to glories in the future, including in the series against Australia. Morne Morkel has shown the ability to hit the deck hard and produce his own spells of genius to be compared to Shaun Pollock, another man is cornering the fast bowlers’ world. But it appears Donald himself thinks Morkel can outbeat him.
There is a mouth watering prospect in store. Dale Steyn is the leading wicket taker of 2008 with sixty wickets at an average that is below twenty. Hence, it is with great expectations (not to mention pace) that Steyn is expected to lead the South African attack. With his ability to swing the ball late with considerable pace, South Africa are beginning to believe that they could have a potent attack on their hands.
Allan Donald has been an enigma since he turned up in South African colours. His pace, his attitude and his grit made for a terrifying prospect for practically all teams in the line up. He served as a valiant ambassador of the game and his country right up to his retirement even injuries began to bog him down. South Africa, even in the early days of entry into the international fold, were not considered easy pickings because of the likes of Donald who formed an integral core of their game plan even as captains changed hands.
Donald believes that Morkel, who is only inches shorter than Joel Garner, more popularly known as Big Bird, is in the same league as Curtly Ambrose and feels Morkel will become a bowler of an awesome reputation in the years to come, surpassing Donald himself statistically for South Africa.
Also speculated is that Steyn would prove a handful for Matthew Hayden. Haydos as he is more popularly known, had a wretched time in India, a team he has traditionally done well against and South Africa are hoping they can keep him (a couple more in the line up) quiet through the three Test series.
