FICA chief executive, Tim May, has lashed out at the WICB in the face of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.
May has alleged that FICA (Federation of International Cricketers Association) was disappointed that the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) had decided upon a ‘third rate’ squad for the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa and was using the prestigious ICC tournament as a ‘bargaining chip’.
The WICB is locked in a bitter battle with the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) and have decided against picking the striking cricketers.
At a time when the ICC is counting on the ICC Champions Trophy to make a case for ODIs in the cricket arena, the FICA is perhaps wondering not only about the dilution of the intensity of the contest but also, of the prospect of Australia having to face a severely depleted, inexperienced, West Indies squad in the series thereafter.
