There seems to be a complete turn around happening in Pakistan. Just when Shahid Afridi was pitched up, Younis Khan is having second thoughts.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not accept Younis Khan’s resignation as Pakistan’s captain following match fixing allegation in light of Pakistan’s semi final exit in the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 in South Africa.
But since being reinstated, Younis Khan is not only eager to rise higher to the challenges and demands but also, he is willing to make redundant some of his past decisions.
While Shahid Afridi was appointed Pakistan’s Twenty20 captain after the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 in England after Younis Khan resigned, Afridi has now asked that he be exempted from selections for the Test team.
But Younis Khan has thrown another googly stating that he would entertain the intention of making Pakistan’s Twenty20 team provided that the team needs him, the Pakistan public desire his presence and the Pakistan cricket team actually accepts him back into the team.
Whatever happened to being too old to play the game?
But Younis Khan will not be the first.
Indian cricketers - Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble - all who either deemed themselves or were deemed too old for the Twenty20 format, went onto captain their respective teams in the IPL, India’s domestic Twenty20 tournament.
